How I Went From Struggling On My Own, To Signed To Purified & Sekora in just a few months
I was sitting in another mind-numbing meeting at work, listening to my boss Dan drone on about KPIs. But that day felt different.
The night before, I'd stayed up until 4am finishing a track I knew was the one. Months of work. Every spare hour. I was convinced this was finally my breakthrough. I'd sent it off to labels I'd been dreaming about for years.
So as Dan talked, I couldn't stop checking my phone. Refreshing email. Checking SoundCloud plays. Days turned into weeks. Nothing. Then finally, one play from the label I desperately wanted. My heart jumped. And then... silence.
All those late nights. All that work. For nothing.
I'd Been Doing It Wrong For 5 Years
I'd been teaching myself from YouTube tutorials for five years. Following courses step-by-step. Trying to reverse-engineer tracks from my favorite artists. But my music wasn't at professional level.
When I'd play one of my tunes in a DJ set, it would stick out. Something was off. Some tracks took a weekend. Others took months. I'd get to version 10, 15, 20 of the same idea, constantly "perfecting" it, but it never got where I wanted it.
Why was it taking so long to finish tracks? Why weren't they good enough? Why were labels ignoring me? Meanwhile, other producers I knew started breaking through. Getting signed. Playing shows internationally. What were they doing that I wasn't?
Music started feeling like a chore. I'd think, "What's the point? Nobody's going to care." The truth was I was being incredibly unproductive. Doing stuff that didn't move the needle. Not fixing any real issues. I didn't even know what the issues were.
I knew I needed to change something quickly, or this dream would die and I'd end up stuck in that office forever.
The breakthrough came when I finally admitted:
I don't know it all. Nobody does.
I'd been self-taught my entire life. I had no idea if what I was doing was correct. No benchmark. No feedback loop. Just me, alone, guessing.
So I enrolled at Point Blank Music School and met Paradoks, a producer three years ahead of me, already signed to labels I liked. When I showed him my music, I expected him to be stoked.
Instead, he gave me brutal, constructive feedback. He broke it down. Told me exactly what was wrong. What needed to change...
For the first time in five years, I had direction. He explained what actually matters: strong hooks, proper mixing, storytelling, and conducting yourself like a professional that labels want to sign.
